I just opened an account with RingCentral. So far it seems like a good alternative. I like that there is an iphone app since my several members in my business have iphones.

Chris,
I too just signed with Ring Central. I looked at Grasshopper too but we didn't have enough phone numbers. I was also going to have to pay for dedicated phone lines into my employee home offices so I went with Ring Central. I'm not up and running yet but so far their follow-up and customer service has been outstanding.
It will be interesting to follow this trend - it seems more and more people are jumping on the virtual bandwagon.

Chris - I work at GH and came across this. While I'll admit I'm biased, have you used Grasshopper before or just wondering what other virtual providers were out there? You can get a number and all the features you mentioned with GH and it is definitely designed for small businesses (even 1-2 person teams). If you want more info, feel free to shoot me an email and I'll gladly answer any questions you have. cgillette at grasshopper

Expert Answer
Casie - when we did our research, one difference between you and RingCentral seemed to be the actual phone lines. Do you provide numbers or do users have to purchase them from somewhere else and you just port them over. It would help this discussion (and several others like it on Bizmore) if you could identify differences between Grasshopper and RingCentral.

Ira - Good questions, thanks!
Grasshopper does in fact provide both toll free and local numbers but you can port numbers over if you already have them.
GH and RingCentral are certainly very similar but there are a few key differences. Both companies offer 24/7 customer support and many of the same features. While RC offers two types of plans, one based on minutes and one based on # of lines, Grasshopper plans are all based on minute usage and include an unlimited # of extensions and all features. Our goal is to make it as simple as possible. You have one number, you can set up as many extensions as you want and those extensions can be forwarded to any number you want. No extra equipment is needed so you can use whatever phone you currently have, including your current office phone system (if you have one).
Our pricing is also based on a month-to-month agreement vs an annual contract. Grasshopper is one of the few virtual phone providers that does not make our customers sign a contract.
Hope that answers some questions people have and we are always willing to answer any others via email, twitter (@grasshopper) or by phone 800-820-8210
